Hey Archers,

Please remind your parents to attend the parents' meeting this coming Saturday 11/2 (1st week of every month) at 3pm.
The parents' meeting will be at the tables next to the parking lot.

Starting from next practice (after this week's practice), we will move indoors to prepare for the upcoming indoor season next year.

End of September/October Updates

Please don't forget to remind your parents that there will be a parents' meeting on the first week of October! (that's next week)
This is their only chance to sign you up for private lessons for the entire month.

Our overall winner for our monthly club tournament of September was David Lee!
He was actually undefeated for the entire month!
The point system starts all over from week 1, and so everyone starts off from 0 points next week.
You can be our new overall club champion for October :)
Please check out the "Monthly Club Competition" tab above to look at the final results list and the pictures of all our monthly winners.

For those of you who didn't know (you should know by now...I posted about this tournament at least two or three times!), next Saturday 10/5/2013 is the "Duel in the Desert Trials," a trial tournament between Arizona and California.
This tournament is to pick the California team to compete in the actual "Duel in the Desert" tournament, which will be on the last weekend of October (the team is only for college and senior divisions!)
Nonetheless, it'll be a great way to gain tournament experience!
You have the opportunity to compete in two tournaments in October!
The location is our usual practice range, El Dorado Park.
Just scroll down a little, and you'll find all the information you need.

Also, there is an "Equipment" tab above.
Many of you have requested the page to sell/buy equipment, and it has been there for several months now!
Anyone can comment on that page, so please use it to buy/sell/trade equipment!

Club Survey

Hi everyone,

Good job to those who competed at the Pacific Coast Championships in Sacramento this weekend!
It was raining and the second half of the long distances was cancelled due to the crazy weather (lots of rain with thunder/lightning, strong wind), but everyone pulled through really well!
For those of you who want to gain more experience, be sure to check out the monthly qualifiers at our usual practice range (El Dorado Park) and the Duel in the Desert (tournament between California and Arizona...also at El Dorado Park).
If you scroll down this page just a little, you will find all the information I posted earlier about these tournaments (links, dates...)!

As all of you know, we have implemented our new tournament-orientated club practice last month so that every week is a tournament.
Everyone seems focused on shooting well these days...perhaps because points, rankings, and prizes are involved now? :)
Please take this quick survey and let me know what you think about our new format!
Here is the link to the survey:

See you all next Saturday!

September Parents' Meeting Reminder

This is a reminder that there is a monthly meeting on the first Saturday of every month; the meeting for September will be September 7.
After dropping off your kid(s), please stay for the parents meeting.
We will cover important information including private lesson schedule for the month of September.

Also, for those of you who want to gain more experience, there are plenty of outdoor tournaments available!
Though the season may be over for national rankings, there are still tournaments going on!
Skill comes with experience...especially reading the wind.
I strongly recommend that everyone compete at the remaining several tournaments, even if they are not for national ranking.

1) PAC Coast Championships - State Tournament
September 21-22, 2013 (Saturday, Sunday)
@ Discovery Park, Sacramento
For more info or to register:
http://calarchery.net/events/events-this-month/icalrepeat.detail/2013/09/20/40/-/pacific-coast-championship

2) Monthly Qualifiers - September Qualifier (like a "practice" tournament)
Septmber 29, 2013 (Sunday)
@ El Dorado Park
To register or for more info:
http://www.thisisforscore.com/event.cfm?id=75

3) Dual in the Desert Trials - for archers in California and Arizona
October 5-6, 2013 (Saturday, Sunday)
@El Dorado Park
To register or for more info:
http://calarchery.net/events/events-this-month/icalrepeat.detail/2013/10/05/9/-/duel-in-the-desert-trials-desert-open

Also, be sure to check out the new tab on our blog, "Monthly Club Competition."
I will be posting the results list and the overall winner from each month.
The winner for the month of August who also won a custom target bale was Geun Woo (Kevin) Kim.
After a few months, we will be able to see how well everyone is improving, discover weaknesses/strengths based on rankings or scores at different rounds (ie. gold game really tests your mental strength!), etc.

That's it for now!

New Club Practice Format

As many of you have seen, our club is adopting a new practice format for the more experienced archers.
Beginners will continue to receive more individualized instructions at the phone book area.
We will no longer just shoot arrows during club; you must do that on your own time.
We will move onto practicing the actual tournament situations, especially because we have so many high-performance archers in our club.
We have 8 Junior Dream Team archers and even one Youth World USA team member!
We will have competitions every week, and the highest ranked archer from all divisions (based on total points) at the end of the month will receive a custom target bale with the archer's name on it (courtesy of Chris Lee and his family).

The distances are set at 60 meters, 40 meters, and 20 meters; you must shoot at the appropriate distance as advised by the coaches.
Our monthly practice schedule is as follows (subject to change at the discretion of the coaches):
Week 1 - 36 arrow qualification round.
Week 2 - Gold game up to 25 points.
Week 3 - Elimination round.
Week 4 - Team round / "mystery" game.

Also, one quick notes...PLEASE PICK UP YOUR OWN TRASH.
There have been empty water bottles lying around all over the field after practice.
Please, don't bring any water if you're not going to pick up after yourself!
The coaches and parents should not have to clean up after you!

August Parents' Meeting

This is a reminder that there is a monthly meeting on the first Saturday of every month, and the meeting for August will be August 3.

After dropping off your kid(s), please stay for the parents meeting.

We will cover important information including private lesson schedule and our club tournament during the first week of September.

Also, please take the time to review our club rules at the "Rules&Procedures" page, located on the second tab above (not just the new-comers, everyone must review the club rules).

One of the rules that was poorly followed in the recent weeks was the very first one: "Archers must arrive 10 minutes prior to the start of club to set up their equipment."

Our club time is 3:00~6:00 p.m.

You must come at least 10 minutes early (even earlier since most of you take more than 10 minutes to set up your equipment) to not only set up your bow but also help the parent volunteers and coaches put up the target bales that YOU will be shooting on.

That means if you live 30 minutes away from the archery range, you MUST leave the house at 2:20 at the very latest in order to arrive at the field by 2:50 (No traffic excuses! You must account for traffic when you leave).

Please do not be late!

The later you come to the field, less instruction time that not only you but also all the other archers will have.

Especially with our new training schedule geared towards actual competition starting next month, we need all the time we have, perhaps even more.

Below is the flyer for our 3rd Annual Joy Lee Archery Championships:

Registration can be found at this link:
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1S-UzSXIV-zbAqClphlQXc-NoHFLeosq8DKU6k-8AJzw/viewform

Be sure to sign up as soon as possible to help us organize the event!

If you have any questions, feel free to email me at jlarchery@gmail.com!

June Updates

We are in the midst of the outdoor season, with major tournaments coming up this month: the California State Championships and the SoCal Showdown.

We will still have club practice on 6/15, but it will be at the phone book area because the whole field will be taken for the California State Championships.

For those of you who are attending the tournament and wants to order lunch together as a club, please email Mrs. Kim at chickchick00@hotmail.com

The lunch will be $10 per person.

However, we will not have club practice on 6/22 because of the large number of archers that will be gone to shoot in the major national tournament, the SoCal Showdown.

For anyone above the age of 15 (and yes, adults too) who wants to earn a coaching certificate, we will have a class for the Level 1 (age 15-18) and Level 2 (entry level for adults) after the Easton JOAD Nationals, the last outdoor national tournament in the middle of July.

If you are interested, please email Mrs. Kim at chickchick00@hotmail.com

We'd like to welcome Hunter Conley, Alex Nahm, and Jiwon Nahm to our club!

April Parent Meeting

Congrats to everyone who competed in the 2013 AAE Arizona Cup!
Despite the unprecedented wind (especially the newer archers) and the longevity, we all endured well.

We usually have our monthly parents meeting on the first week of every month, but because so many people were competing in Arizona Cup and so few people were present at the club practice, we decided to move the parents meeting to this Saturday 4/13/2013.

So parents:
Please stop by after dropping off your kids!

See you then!

Quick Reference Guide

Joad/Youth Age Divisions

The first two distances (before "/") are shot on the larger 122cm target.
The latter two distances (after "/") are shot on the smaller 80cm target.
(For nationals, the 80cm target has down to the 5 ring only. Any arrow shot outside the 5 ring is a miss.)

"Through the calendar year" means the year you turn that age.
For example, in the cadet category, consider someone who is born in 1996, regardless of the month he was born.
He will turn 17 sometime in 2013, whether in January or December does not matter, and so this year will be his last year to compete as cadet.

We are now officially done with indoors for the year :)

We will now prepare for the outdoor season at El Dorado Park.
Our club practice time for 3/2/2013 will be 1:30~4:30pm.

Joy Lee Archery Indoor Tournament

Hey guys,

On 2/16/2013, we will have our indoor tournament in preparation for the imminent Indoor Nationals, which is on the last weekend of February.

The time will be the same as our usual practice time, 3:30~6:30 p.m.

Please register at https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1E4sAUxG5GPnsxnyPfpNm90nDRCmG6800OnUCMHZ-Y_k/viewform

For beginners, this will be a great opportunity to learn the format of an actual competition and see what score  they can shoot.

For more advanced archers, our indoor tournament will be a great "mirror" to reflect upon and discover what they need to work on for the next few days before Indoor Nationals.

All Joy Lee archers (ANC, San Diego, Long Beach) have been invited!

Even though this is not an official ranking tournament, let's treat this as the real deal!
